Exercise, together with the right diet, is what keeps a person fit. However, people who exercise tend to do things that affect their workout routine. If you have bad habits when you work out, you might make yourself prone to injuries instead of losing weight. It doesn't matter if you've been working out for a number of years or if you are only starting. There are things that you should avoid while you're working out. Your session should be about how you are getting results that are not sub-par, but rather results that will make you say that you've fully maximized your workout. You don't need to do more intense activities, but you have to discipline yourself.
If you've been working out and you're not seeing results, perhaps it's time for you to change your approach toward your routine. There are things that are holding you back from achieving your goal. You know that exercise helps you in the long run and it can give that physical and mental lift. But, there are certain pitfalls that might hinder you. These habits are what render workout routines to be ineffective. Before you find it hard to remove these habits, they better be stopped.

Not eating food prior to working out
Most people who go to the gym believe that they should not eat food so that they don't have to burn as much fat. There are contradicting studies about this belief. Our bodies are a bit similar to cars, as they need fuel in order for them to start. Our source of energy comes from food and we have to eat so that we can use our bodies to its full potential. You are unable to do intense workouts if you have an empty stomach. You will be worn out faster if you do not consume food prior to your workout, so eat up!

Stopping your routine for days because of soreness
If it is your first time to hit the gym, there is a high possibility that you'll feel sore. If so, don't let your body be dormant for a number of days. Instead, try to rest up your muscles for 24 hours, at most. Also you will feel sore if you have tried a new work out. There is what we call delayed onset muscle soreness. This is soreness that is felt hours, even days after a strenuous workout that the body is not accustomed to was done. It's better that you do light resistance exercises than to keep your body idle. The effects of such exercise is similar to having a message.
Holding your breath
Others think that holding your breath can make you do some exercises easier. Actually, your body needs air when you do some routines so breathe. Inhaling and exhaling are factors that are always overlooked when exercising. Always keep in mind to inhale and exhale properly while working out. Your body requires oxygen so that your muscles are able to move properly and blood can circulate to different parts of the body. If you hold your breath in some routines, you are going to feel lightheaded, thus you are unable to finish your routine properly.
